The Alexander Technique is a process of mind-body retraining that teaches us to undo unnecessary, habitual tensions. Through simple activities and movements of your daily life, you’ll learn to let go of immediate reactions of physical and mental tension and to allow new possibilities of movement and thought to occur. Typical activities in a class may include sitting, standing, walking, lying down or others specific to your life. You’ll learn to redirect your energies in a way that leads to a natural, easier way of being and moving without strain or fatigue.

In Alexander Technique classes, I’ll use verbal instructions and (when possible) gentle touch to help you discover and let go unnecessary tension and unhelpful habits of posture, movement and thought. I’ll guide you through a new experience of coordinated movement not controlled by habit or reactivity. This also helps to develop appropriate postural tone, meaning stable and balanced but supple and free to move. Essentially, it means getting unstuck. Through a process of self-discovery, you’ll learn how you yourself can release unnecessary muscle and mental tension and allow your whole self to organize with greater ease and musculoskeletal health. This leads to other benefits, like improved digestive, circulatory, respiratory and overall health as well as increased ability to respond to life challenges with conscious intent.

Group Alexander Technique work is also immensely empowering. Group classes are a fun and dynamic way to deepen your learning by sharing experiences with others.

Both group classes and individual sessions can be done online as well. Online work differs as obviously there is no physical contact, but the guided exploration can lead to profound self-discoveries.
