I will be teaching a free workshop for care partners of people with long-term care needs in July at the Missoula Public Library. “Partnering with Poise” was originally developed by The Poise Project, a nonprofit, with funding from the Parkinson’s Foundation and with research through the University of Idaho. I am in the process of bringing this new resource for care partners to Missoula by becoming a certified instructor, and I am looking for volunteers who would like to participate in this in-person class.
Here is some more information about the workshop:
“Partnering with Poise: Care for the Care Partner”
July 2025 Workshop for care partners in Missoula!
Caring for a person living with chronic challenges can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Partnering with Poise is a free 4-week workshop that can offer care partners practical skills to immediately feel refreshed, reduce stress, and prevent physical strain — without adding extra time or tasks to your day.
Led by Mari Hodges, an Alexander technique specialist, the embodied learning process in this class is adapted from Alexander technique, which has been taught for decades in performing arts training programs as a great way to manage stress and prevent injury. Our course participants have reported long-lasting benefits even a year after completing the course, saying that they feel more in charge of their day-to-day choices and needs as a care partner.
The Poise Project® is a nonprofit based in Western North Carolina with the mission of helping the public maintain poise, dignity, and personal growth throughout all stages and challenges of life using the principles of Alexander technique (AT). We design and deliver programs adapted from Alexander technique that have been shown to increase independence, resilience, and quality of life. “Partnering with Poise” was originally funded by a grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation and with continued support from the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
